The best self-care destinations in London

Re:Mind studio in Victoria

Are you functioning on high alert and letting stress overtake your life?  Discover four of the most calm and peaceful places to escape London life for a little self care. Your mental health depends on it!

It’s never been more important to slow the f*ck down. While we’re slowly starting to understand the damaging effects of excessive digital consumption and heightened cortisol levels due to stressful jobs, busy commutes and high-intensity exercise, finding stillness in the city is no mean feat.

With holistic lifestyle studios, fitness classes geared to your mood, massage boutiques and blissful drop-in meditation classes popping up all over London, we thought we’d share our favourite places for you to escape, unplug and get grounded.

London’s first dedicated meditation studio

An eco-wellness space and stand-alone meditation studio, RE:Mind offers city dwellers non-committal, drop-in meditation classes along with space to unwind and indulge in a little retail therapy.

Re:Mind meditation studio

With eight signature classes to choose from there’s something suitable for all levels. We tried Re:Heal with Reiki master Vickie Williams. A group healing meditation, this class grounds and re-energises using ancient Reiki traditions. Missing nature? Why not try Re:Wild, a session devoted to rediscovering and getting in touch with your inner animal whilst feeling more connected to the environment. There’s also Re:Aim, a class to explore your inner desires and get clarity on what your soul truly wants.

The studio has been lovingly thought out, from the herbal tea station, ethically sourced crystals, soft organic cotton blankets and cushions to a living-wall filled with gorgeous green plants, Re:Mind reinvents meditation and brings it into the modern world.

Re:Mind eco shop

But this self care studio doesn’t stop there, their eco shop sells ethical and sustainable items ranging from Ayurvedic recipe books to candles – products that will compliment your home and fulfil your mind.

We think Re:Mind is the the perfect place to put the breaks on and stop all that internal noise. You’ll find us there most mornings from now on!

A slice of hygge in Belgravia

SMUK (meaning ‘beautiful’ in Danish) is a new Scandinavian luxury beauty and lifestyle studio nestled in Eccleston Yards, Belgravia (a very short walk from Victoria station and just around the corner from Re:Mind).

If you’re looking for an injection of hygge in the city then come and spend the morning (or day) with SMUK.

Not only do they care about what you look like on the outside, but feeling beautiful on the inside is just as important to them too. From fabulous facials to bouncy blow drys – using sophisticated and sustainable products – they provide every beauty treatment you could wish for. They also offer wellbeing workshops covering everything from life coaching to brunch clubs. You will even find a hygge corner to enjoy a cup of detox tea and read your favourite book.

We’ve fallen in love with SMUK, the sleek-Scandi interior along with the vast array of beauty services makes for a welcome excuse to escape busy life and seek a little solitude. Go experience it and come out looking and feeling b-e-a…utiful!

Frame says relax in Farringdon

‘Move your body to look after your mind’ is a philosophy that Frame has lived by for the last 10 years. They know all too well that the best workout is the one that you want to turn up to. With this in mind the team has created a handy mood filter on their class timetable so you can work with your body and not against it. So whether you’re feeling icky, drained, fragile or stressed the studio can point you in the right direction of the class that will boost your endorphins.

Frame says relax

Taking the mental health concept a step further, Frame has created the Chill House at their new studio in Farringdon. They’ve collaborated with meditation expert Chris Connors on bespoke guided meditation tracks for their dedicated calm space, complete with bean bags, cosy blankets and headphones. So rather than reaching burnout and falling out with your colleagues you can now escape the office at lunch and immerse yourself in a relaxing workout for the mind.

Combat the negative effects of city living in Shoreditch

A contemporary space in east London, MASAJ has been created to challenge the traditional stereotypes of massage therapy. Founder Scarlet has carefully curated a menu of five bespoke treatments which aim to embrace the nuances and complexities of individuals with the power of touch. From intensely relaxing and restorative massages focussing on specific areas of the body to full-body deep tissue massage that’s great for releasing chronic patterns of tension, there’s something to nourish the mind and body of every individual.

Using 100% natural products, embracing the mantra that one size does not fit all and celebrating the creativity of local east Londoners, we think MASAJ is redefining the concept of traditional spa treatments.

Have you been to any of these places yet? If so, let us know what you think in the comments below. We’re far more Brunch n Chill these days!
