Fed up of swiping your way through London’s singletons? Get yourself along to the next dating event at Ministry Does Fitness and find a fitty the old-fashioned way
From benching and breadcrumbing to ghosting and zombie-ing, London’s online dating scene can be a brutal place. Last year after a long-term relationship ended, I found myself back in the dating game and learning all about these modern dating phenomenons first hand.
After a four year hiatus, it took a while to get back into the swing of online dating and at 31 I found myself in a very different place compared to the last time I was on the lookout for love.
Back then it was all about boozy nights out but these days I’m a lot more health conscious and I’m looking for someone with a similar lifestyle. Ideally someone to join me on a run, spot me in the gym, and most importantly, to hunt out London’s best brunch spots with.
So when an email dropped in my inbox from Ministry Does Fitness about their Huggle Showcase dating event, it felt like a sign. I took the plunge and signed up to be one of 28 singles in a sweaty HIIT session, followed by a pub quiz, skinny Prosecco and goody bags. I was pretty nervous at this first foray into a real-life dating event but decided to throw myself straight in at the deep end and go for it anyway!
With my friend (and eligible bachelor) Chris accompanying me for moral support, we took our starting positions in the studio and got stuck into a 7-station HIIT circuit. From sprints on the treadmills to weighted squats, planks and burpees – it was everything you can expect from a hardcore HIIT class at Ministry Does Fitness.
There were plenty of opportunities to flirt and get up-close-and-personal with partner exercises like wheelbarrow walks. And after a full circuit was complete we switched stations, giving everyone the chance to workout with another set of guys and girls.
After two circuits, the hard work was over and we celebrated with a chilled glass of bubbles. It was time to put our brainpower to the test in the pub quiz. Healthy Chef Steph was the hostess with the mostess overseeing the evening and with the drinks flowing, we all got to know each other a little more.
Unfortunately, my team lost the quiz and as punishment we had to tell everyone who we had our eye on in the room! My friend Chris chose Steph as his favourite, while her boyfriend was sitting in the corner of the room… #Awks
Although I didn’t meet the man of my dreams, I made some new friends and had a lot of fun, all while getting a killer workout in. It made a welcome change from swiping and small talk, and the beauty is, you get to see a load of potential partners in action before committing to an actual date together!
Keep your eyes peeled for the next fitness dating event which should be happening around Valentine’s Day. Sign up for news from The Arches at ministrydoesfitness.com
